18-Year-Old Emma Poghosyan Wins Gold for Armenia at World Youth Weightlifting Championship

Armenia has claimed its first title at the World Youth Weightlifting Championship in Spain, thanks to the incredible performance of 18-year-old Emma Poghosyan. Competing in the women's 81 kg weight class, Poghosyan won the gold medal with a total lift of 233 kg, marking a major achievement for both herself and Armenia.

Poghosyan’s victory came after a tough competition, particularly in the duel against Mexican weightlifter Hernandez. Emma managed to surpass her rival by just 1 kg, lifting a total of 233 kg to Hernandez’s 232 kg.

In the snatch event, Poghosyan initially placed fifth, lifting 100 kg. However, she made a strong comeback in the clean and jerk, where she lifted 133 kg to secure a small gold medal in that exercise. Her exceptional performance in the clean and jerk lifted her to the top of the overall rankings, sealing the title for Armenia.

Emma Poghosyan's victory is a big accomplishment for Armenia, adding to the nation’s growing list of achievements in weightlifting. Her gold medal is a testament to her hard work, skill, and dedication. This win is also a point of pride for Armenia’s weightlifting program, which continues to produce top-level athletes.

Earlier in the championship, Armenia’s Alexandra Grigoryan won a bronze medal in the 55 kg weight category, while Anna Amroyan took home a bronze in the 76 kg category. Together with Poghosyan’s gold, these results show the strength and depth of Armenia’s young weightlifting talent.

At just 18 years old, Emma Poghosyan’s future in weightlifting looks incredibly promising. Her ability to stay calm under pressure and perform when it matters most suggests that she has the potential to continue achieving great things on the international stage.

Armenia's weightlifting team will return home from Spain with their heads held high, having secured three medals at the World Youth Weightlifting Championship.

Poghosyan’s gold, along with the bronzes from Grigoryan and Amroyan, shows the continued success of Armenia in the sport and gives hope for even more victories in the future.
