2024 Paris Olympics: Meet the 15 Armenian Athletes Representing Armenia
The 2024 Paris Olympics start today, July 26, and in honor of this grand event, we introduce our readers to the 15 Armenian athletes representing Armenia in France.
Elmira Karapetyan - Shooter
Elmira Karapetyan, born on May 18, 1994, in Yerevan, is a master of sports in shooting. She began shooting at 19 and quickly made a name for herself by winning a gold medal at the senior Armenian championship in 2013. Karapetyan has been the Armenian champion from 2014 to 2020 and has earned medals in international competitions in Ukraine, Egypt, and Kuwait. She secured a spot in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after placing fifth in the 2021 European Championship in Croatia.
Artur Davtyan - Gymnast
Artur Davtyan, born on August 8, 1992, in Yerevan, is a celebrated gymnast and a key member of the Armenian national gymnastics team. His career includes a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a World Champion title on vault in 2022. He began gymnastics at seven and joined the Armenian national team in 2008. Despite a leg injury at the 2012 London Olympics, Davtyan has continued to excel, winning multiple European Championships and World Cups medals.
Vahagn Davtyan - Gymnast
Vahagn Davtyan, born on August 18, 1988, is a three-time European medalist and one-time European Games medalist on rings. Starting gymnastics at age six, Davtyan has competed in various international events, earning medals at European Championships and World Cups. He has qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, continuing his impressive career.
Slavik Galstyan - Wrestler
Slavik Galstyan, born on December 21, 1996, is an Armenian sport wrestler competing in the men's Greco-Roman category. He claimed the bronze medal in the men's 63 kg event during the 2019 World Wrestling Championships. Galstyan has competed in various international tournaments, including the European Qualification Tournament and the World Wrestling Championships.
Malkhas Amoyan - Wrestler
Malkhas Amoyan, born on January 22, 1999, is an Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler. He won the gold medal in the men's 72 kg event at the 2021 World Wrestling Championships and the 77 kg event at the 2022 European Wrestling Championships. Amoyan has also earned silver and bronze medals in various international competitions.
Artur Aleksanyan - Wrestler
Artur Aleksanyan, born in Gyumri, started Greco-Roman wrestling in 2000. He has won multiple European and World Championship titles, including bronze at the 2012 London Olympics, gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Aleksanyan is celebrated for his dedication to his country and his sport.
Arsen Harutyunyan - Wrestler
Arsen Harutyunyan, born on November 22, 1999, in Masis, Armenia, is a distinguished freestyle wrestler. He won the 61 kg gold at the 2019 European Wrestling Championships and represented Armenia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Harutyunyan has earned multiple accolades, including European Championship titles and bronze medals at the World Championships.
Vazgen Tevanyan - Wrestler
Vazgen Tevanyan, born on October 27, 1999, is an accomplished freestyle wrestler competing at 65 kilograms. He won the 2020 Individual World Cup and the 2019 U23 European Championships. Tevanyan qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics by winning gold at the 2021 European Olympic Qualification Tournament.
Andranik Karapetyan - Weightlifter
Andranik Karapetyan, born on December 15, 1995, in Vagharshapat, Armenia, is an Armenian weightlifter. He won a gold medal at the 2016 European Weightlifting Championships and a bronze medal at the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships. Karapetyan has overcome challenges, including a dislocated elbow at the 2016 Summer Olympics, to continue competing at a high level.
Garik Karapetyan - Weightlifter
Garik Karapetyan is the 2023 European champion and a bronze medalist at the 2024 European Championships. He has won multiple medals in youth and junior competitions and set a junior world record at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships.
Varazdat Lalayan - Weightlifter
Varazdat Lalayan is a three-time medalist at the World Weightlifting Championships and a three-time medalist at the European Weightlifting Championships. He has won gold at the 2019 Junior World Weightlifting Championships and the 2019 European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships.
Davit Chaloyan - Boxer
Davit Chaloyan is an Armenian boxer who won a silver medal in the super heavyweight event at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships. He also competed in the 2022 European Amateur Boxing Championships.
Artur Barseghyan - Swimmer
Artur Barseghyan, born on March 29, 2002, is an Armenian swimmer. He competed in the men's 50-meter freestyle event at the 2018 FINA World Swimming Championships and continues to represent Armenia in international competitions.
Varsenik Manucharyan - Swimmer
Varsenik Manucharyan, born on July 11, 2003, is an Armenian swimmer. She competed in the women's 100-meter freestyle event at the 2020 Summer Olympics and has participated in multiple international competitions, including the 2019 World Aquatics Championships.
Yervand Mkrtchyan - Runner
Yervand Mkrtchyan, born on June 11, 1996, is an Armenian middle and long-distance runner. He is a six-time national champion and the Armenian national record holder for the 1500 meters and 3000 meters. Mkrtchyan has competed in the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships and the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships.
