Alexis Ohanian's Emotional Farewell Tribute: Honoring the Legacy of His Grandfather John Ohanian
Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian paid a heartfelt tribute to his grandfather, John Ohanian, who passed away at the age of 101. Ohanian posted an emotional tribute on Instagram on Thursday, reflecting on the life of John Ohanian and how his triumphs and tribulations shaped him into a better man.
"We laid my Grandfather, John Ohanian, to rest yesterday. 'Great Grandpa' (to Olympia and Adira) was a man whose 101-year journey (one month away from 102!) stood as a testament to resilience, dedication, and the enduring power of family," Ohanian wrote.
"Born into the aftermath of the Armenian Genocide, his early years were marked by immense challenges. His parents, survivors themselves, instilled in him a deep need for self-sufficiency and the importance of family. These lessons would become the cornerstone of his life."
Alexis Ohanian mentioned that John was "built different" and managed to survive the recession, fought in World War II, pursued a career as a lawyer, and positively impacted the lives of many Americans. Alexis revealed that he first learned about John's remarkable journey during one of Reddit's 'Ask Me Anything' sessions ten years ago.
Ohanian, who married Serena Williams in 2017, expressed that John symbolized self-reliance and imparted important life lessons to three generations of Ohanians.
"Self-reliance was a hallmark of my Grandfather, and I am grateful for it. Grandpa, I understand that the path you walked wasn't easy, but it has guided us through three new generations of Ohanians, providing opportunities that your parents, who endured a nightmare in their youth, could have only dreamed of," Ohanian concluded.
