During today’s Cabinet session, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the establishment of a specialized unit within the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia dedicated to ensuring the security of regional and international communications passing through the country. The initiative, part of the "Crossroads of Peace" project, aims to safeguard roads, railways, gas pipelines, cables, power lines, goods, cargo, vehicles, and people utilizing these vital communication networks.
Prime Minister Pashinyan revealed the development during the presentation of the "Crossroads of Peace" project. He stated, "I want to inform that this unit has already been set up. The unit is already formed, equipped significantly, and has practically started its operations since yesterday." The establishment of this unit signifies a significant step towards enhancing Armenia's infrastructure security and ensuring the safe passage of goods and people.
Furthermore, PM Pashinyan reiterated Armenia's commitment to regional connectivity. He highlighted plans to restore the Meghri railway, emphasizing its role in connecting not only Armenia and Azerbaijan but also linking the southern regions of Armenia with the northwestern regions via southern Armenia. Referred to as the "Armenian Crossroads," this railway project holds the potential to enhance economic ties and facilitate smoother transportation networks within the region.
The creation of the specialized NSS unit is expected to play a pivotal role in facilitating the seamless flow of regional and international communications, fostering economic growth, and strengthening Armenia's position as a key player in regional connectivity.
