Armenia to Use Nakhijevan Railway for Cargo Transport, Says FM Mirzoyan

Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has announced that Armenia will be able to use the railway in Nakhijevan to transport cargo south. Speaking at a meeting of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia, Mirzoyan explained the details of the plan, which would allow Armenian cargo to cross into Azerbaijan and then use the Nakhijevan railway for further transportation.
According to the minister, the proposal suggests that cargo will first cross the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, particularly through the Meghri railway in southern Armenia. From there, it will enter Nakhijevan and continue its journey south. This initiative could open new trade routes and improve economic connectivity in the region.
Mirzoyan emphasized that this arrangement would not only benefit Armenia but would also allow Azerbaijan to use Armenian railway networks for international transportation. He listed the broader implications of the agreement, stating that if this becomes a reality, goods from China could be transported via railway through Armenia and further westward into Turkey. From there, shipments could continue via multimodal transport, such as crossing the Mediterranean Sea by boat. This arrangement, according to the minister, would create equal opportunities for both Armenia and Azerbaijan to expand trade links.
While the road ahead is uncertain, the Armenian government hopes that diplomacy and mutual agreements will bring long-term benefits.
