Armenian Farmer Shot in Artsakh as Azerbaijani Forces Violate Ceasefire
On June 22, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the ceasefire by opening fire in the direction of Askeran, Martuni, and Martakert regions of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), using firearms, as reported by the Artsakh Defense Army.
According to the statement, the shooting occurred at approximately 1:40pm to 2:20pm on June 22, targeting a farmer who was working in his tractor in the agricultural fields of Chartar.
The incident took place shortly after Azerbaijan spread false information claiming to have disrupted alleged engineering works by the Artsakh Defense Army.
Artsakh authorities promptly reported the shooting to the Russian peacekeepers who are stationed in the region.
As of 9:30am on June 23, the situation on the line of contact was relatively stable, as stated by the Defense Ministry of Artsakh.
This recent shooting incident follows the previous day's incident when Azerbaijani forces shot and wounded an on-duty soldier of the Defense Army.
The ongoing tensions and ceasefire violations in the region are a matter of concern for the international community, and efforts are being made to ensure stability and adherence to the trilateral agreement signed on November 9, 2020.
