Armenians Win Gold and Silver in 109-Kilogram at European Weightlifting Championships

Armenia has once again asserted its dominance in European weightlifting, claiming both gold and silver medals in the men’s 109kg category at the ongoing European Weightlifting Championships.
Garik Karapetyan, 21, emerged as the European champion for the second time in his career after lifting a combined total of 411kg (185kg snatch + 226kg clean & jerk). His outstanding performance secured Armenia its first gold medal of this year’s competition.
Joining him on the podium was two-time Olympic silver medalist Simon Martirosyan, who lifted a total of 406kg (181kg + 225kg) to claim the silver medal, completing a historic one-two finish for the Armenian team.

This year’s European Championships have been a strong showing for Armenia, with several other athletes also securing podium finishes. Silver medals were previously won by Aleksandra Grigoryan (55kg), Gor Sahakyan (73kg), Anna Amroyan (76kg), and Rafik Harutyunyan (81kg). Bronze medals were earned by Garnik Cholakyan (61kg) and Davit Hovhannisyan (96kg).
