Azerbaijan Continues Spreading False Claims as Border Tensions Rise

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) of Armenia has rejected yet another accusation made by Azerbaijan, stating that claims of Armenian forces firing on Azerbaijani combat positions between March 30 and 31 are false. According to Armenian officials, these allegations do not reflect the reality of the situation along the eastern and southeastern border.

Azerbaijan’s statement alleged that Armenian troops targeted Azerbaijani military positions between 5:00 p.m. on Monday and 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday. However, the Armenian MoD dismissed these reports as disinformation and reiterated its commitment to truth and transparency.

The Armenian government has proposed the creation of a joint Armenia-Azerbaijan mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations and other border-related incidents. This initiative, led by the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, aims to establish a fair and unbiased approach to resolving disputes. However, Azerbaijan has yet to respond to the proposal, raising concerns about its commitment to ensuring border stability.

In a statement, the Armenian MoD reaffirmed its willingness to investigate Azerbaijan’s claims if supporting evidence is provided. At the same time, it called on Azerbaijan to acknowledge and investigate recent attacks on Armenian villages, particularly in Syunik Province.

Border Violence in Syunik Province

On March 31, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Azerbaijani forces reportedly opened fire on the Armenian village of Khnatsakh in Syunik Province. The attack damaged a residential house but fortunately did not result in any casualties.

Residents of Khnatsakh, who spoke to The Armenian Report, described how gunfire from Azerbaijani military bases has become a frequent occurrence. Many villagers live in fear of further escalation, as tensions along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border remain high.

Despite Armenia’s diplomatic efforts, Azerbaijan continues to increase military pressure along the border. The lack of a final peace agreement has only added to the uncertainty, with both sides closely monitoring the evolving situation.
