In Glendale on Wednesday evening, a person was discovered dead in a home, leading to the arrest of a suspect following a prolonged standoff. Glendale Police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting an assault in the 3300 block of Reta Street earlier in the day.
Upon arrival, officers found evidence of an assault but were initially unable to locate either the suspect or a victim. As a precautionary measure, three nearby schools were briefly placed on lockdown. The situation prompted the deployment of the Glendale Police Department's Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT Team to initiate negotiations with the suspect.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Vahan Keshishyan of La Crescenta, surrendered to SWAT operators after several hours of negotiation. Unfortunately, officers discovered an individual at the scene who had succumbed to their injuries. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification, and the relationship between the victim and the suspect remains under investigation.
Keshishyan is currently in custody facing murder charges, and the police confirm no additional suspects are being pursued at this time. Detectives and forensics personnel are actively processing evidence at the Reta Street residence.
The incident began when Glendale police received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon around 2:15 p.m. Though evidence of the assault was found, the suspect and victim were initially elusive.
As the investigation unfolds, the Glendale Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward. The tragic events have left the community in shock, emphasizing the importance of swift and thorough investigations to bring justice to the affected parties.
