France Exposes Azerbaijan's Plot to Disrupt Paris 2024 Olympics

Summer olympic game Paris 2024

France's cyber defense unit has revealed a disinformation campaign originating from Azerbaijan, intending to disrupt Paris's readiness to host the upcoming Olympic Games in 2024, according to a report by Reuters on Monday.

The report indicated that the campaign occurred between July 26-27 and was traced to the account of an Azerbaijani individual on a social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, with direct links to the Azerbaijani presidential party.

France's state service for Vigilance and Protection against Foreign Digital Interference (Viginum) highlighted in its report that investigations unveiled at least one foreign entity closely associated with Azerbaijan employing deceptive tactics to damage France's reputation regarding its capability to organize the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In recent months, relations between Paris and Baku have strained, escalating further since Azerbaijan occupied the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

A French diplomatic source confirmed that Paris has sought clarifications from Baku concerning the disinformation campaign. Additionally, discussions are planned with the social media platform X in the upcoming days to address this issue.
