Greg Vartan Launches Congressional Campaign, Aims to Be the Only Armenian-American in Congress

Greg Vartan officially launched his campaign for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District on Monday, drawing a packed audience to Pizza Vita in Summit. If elected, Vartan—an experienced public servant and former Summit Council President—would become the only Armenian-American in Congress, a milestone moment for the community during pressing concerns over Armenia and Artsakh.

“The Armenian-American community has always fought for justice, security, and recognition, but we lack representation in Washington,” Vartan stated. “I will work across the aisle to protect Armenia and Artsakh, strengthen U.S.-Armenia partnerships, secure justice for the Armenian Genocide, and ensure the United States stands firm against threats to our homeland.”

The campaign kick-off event attracted local leaders and supporters who emphasized the significance of the 2026 election. Vartan took aim at incumbent Congressman Tom Kean Jr., criticizing him for being inaccessible to constituents and failing to challenge his party’s leadership on key issues.

“As Armenian-Americans, we know the cost of silence,” Vartan said. “I will be a relentless advocate—not just for our community, but for all who believe in freedom, democracy, and human rights.”

New Jersey’s 7th District is shaping up to be one of the most competitive races in the country. Vartan, with his deep ties to the region and record of public service, is positioning himself as a formidable candidate to flip the seat. His campaign also signals a crucial opportunity for Armenian-Americans to gain a stronger voice in Washington, particularly at a time of heightened geopolitical challenges for Armenia and Artsakh.

Vartan’s background as an EMT and community leader further strengthens his appeal, with supporters highlighting his hands-on experience in public service. His campaign will focus on bipartisan solutions to pressing local and international issues, including economic growth, healthcare, and national security.
