Hamlet Manukyan Wins Gold Medal at Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Croatia

Seventeen-year-old Armenian gymnast Hamlet Manukyan made headlines once again, this time by winning a gold medal at the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Osijek, Croatia. His victory came in the pommel horse final, where he scored an impressive 14.633 points, showing the world that Armenia’s gymnastics future is bright.

Manukyan was part of the Armenian national team led by coach Hakob Serobyan. The team finished the fourth round of the World Cup with a total of three medals: one gold and two bronze. The gold was won by Manukyan, while Artur Davtyan and Artur Avetisyan earned bronze medals.

Although much of the attention in recent years has been on Olympic medalist Artur Davtyan, this tournament put the spotlight on Hamlet Manukyan — a rising star who has been quietly building a strong career since childhood.

Manukyan was born in 2007 in Armenia. At just five years old, his father encouraged him to begin gymnastics. His early start and dedication have paid off. Before turning 18, Manukyan already holds multiple titles, including two Junior World Championship gold medals and two European youth championship titles.

This latest win in Croatia proves that Manukyan is more than just a promising young athlete — he’s a serious competitor on the world stage.

Hamlet Manukyan’s international career began to take shape in 2022 at the European Championships, where he placed 13th in the all-around competition and won silver medals on pommel horse and rings in the event finals.

In 2023, he competed in the second Junior World Championships alongside teammates Erik Baghdasaryan and Mamikon Khachatryan. The team placed fourth, narrowly missing a podium finish. However, Manukyan stood out individually by winning two gold medals in the pommel horse and rings finals.

Later that year, he competed in the European Youth Olympic Festival, where he and his team took bronze. Manukyan also finished ninth in the all-around, and although he fell during the pommel horse final, he still managed a fourth-place finish and won gold on rings.

These results showed that Manukyan not only has talent but also resilience — bouncing back from mistakes and never losing focus.

While Manukyan’s gold was the highlight, other Armenian gymnasts also delivered solid performances:

  • Artur Davtyan, one of Armenia’s most decorated athletes, won a bronze medal in the vault with a score of 14.683 points. Davtyan has previously won Olympic silver and bronze medals, is a world champion, and has won two European championships and two World Cups.

  • Artur Avetisyan earned bronze in the rings final, scoring 14.466 points.

The team skipped the second round of the World Cup in Baku, but competed in Germany (Cottbus) and Turkey (Antalya) in earlier rounds. In Cottbus, Davtyan won gold in vault, and Vahagn Davtyan won gold in rings. In Antalya, Artur Davtyan again won the vault event, continuing his strong season.

As fans celebrate this latest win, one thing is clear: Hamlet Manukyan is a name we’ll be hearing a lot more of in the years to come.
