Israel Orders Return of Weapons from Azerbaijan Amid Growing Tensions with Iran

President of Israel and President of Azerbaijan

Israel has reportedly requested the return of weapons it supplied to Azerbaijan over the past two years. This information was shared by the Telegram channel "Kanal KSIR," which is associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), though it is not an official channel.

The request for the return of these weapons is believed to be linked to the recent escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. There is concern that the weapons could be used to destabilize the region, particularly near Iran’s northwestern border, where tensions are already high. The situation is delicate, as any use of these weapons in the region could have serious consequences, potentially exacerbating conflicts in an already volatile area.

Just yesterday, another cargo aircraft from Silk Way Airlines, which operates between Israel and Azerbaijan, made a flight from Israel to Azerbaijan. This flight is one of more than a dozen similar flights this year, although the exact nature and purpose of the cargo remain undisclosed. The regularity of these flights has raised questions, but no official statements have been made about the contents.

In a related move, the leadership of the Israeli army has ordered all Israeli personnel stationed in Azerbaijan and Georgia to return to Israel immediately. This decision is reportedly based on the growing threats of an attack by Iran. The situation has prompted the Israeli Foreign Ministry to issue an unusual warning to Israeli citizens visiting countries that border Iran—specifically Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkey. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant, exercise caution, and follow the guidance provided by Israel's National Bureau for Counter-Terrorism.

This development comes in the context of broader regional tensions, particularly following Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).  Azerbaijan has reportedly used weapons supplied by both Turkey and Israel in its military operations.

Israel has been a significant provider of military equipment to Azerbaijan, making its recent request for the return of these weapons all the more notable.

The situation is further complicated by the geopolitical dynamics of the region, where Armenia’s relations with Israel have been strained. The narrative that Armenia is an antisemitic country has surfaced, though it is widely regarded as a misrepresentation aimed at justifying certain geopolitical moves.

As tensions continue to rise in the region, the return of Israeli-supplied weapons from Azerbaijan remains a critical issue to watch.
