Los Angeles Pays Tribute to Gagik Ginosyan, Visionary Founder of Karin Folk Ensemble
The Los Angeles community came together on February 11 to honor the legacy of Gagik Ginosyan, the esteemed founder and art director of the transformative Karin Folk Ensemble. The commemorative ceremony took place at St. Leon Cathedral in Burbank, where Ginosyan's life and contributions were celebrated following his passing on February 6 at the age of 57.
Organized by the Ararat Dance Group, an ethnographic dance ensemble based in Los Angeles, the ceremony commenced with a solemn service inside the chapel. Subsequently, the cathedral's courtyard came alive with heartfelt performances, featuring dozens of participants, including members of the Lernazang Ensemble. The dancers gracefully presented Musa Leran Dabke, Karno Kochari, Msho Khr, and Yarkhushta, paying homage to Ginosyan's dedication to preserving and promoting Armenian folk dances.
Ginosyan, recognized as an Honored Cultural Worker for the Republic of Armenia, was a renowned ethnographer renowned for restoring numerous folk and ethnographic dances. His impactful contribution extended beyond the stage, as he utilized Yerevan's Cascade park space to foster public engagement in learning the diverse dances of both eastern and western Armenia.
