The meeting saw the participation of Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Deputy Foreign Minister Mher Grigoryan. However, amid the voting of Civil Contract ruling party members, the session was abruptly closed, leaving several opposition deputies unable to attend due to a lack of permission to maintain privacy. Moreover, cell phones were confiscated upon entry into the meeting hall, intensifying an atmosphere of secrecy.
In discussions with journalists following the closed session, Armenia bloc deputy Ishkhan Saghatelyan expressed deepening concerns regarding the closed-door proceedings. He highlighted apprehensions of potential unilateral concessions, alleging discrepancies in viewpoints between Ararat Mirzoyan and Mher Grigoryan during the meeting. Saghatelyan suggested that Mirzoyan echoed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's rhetoric, warning of war if concessions aren't made. He characterized Mirzoyan's stance as more aligned with Pashinyan's positions than the Prime Minister himself.
Saghatelyan criticized the government's handling of the border issue, lamenting the perceived readiness of high-ranking officials to justify Azerbaijani claims over Armenian territories. He warned that the ruling political majority, led by Pashinyan, may inadvertently provoke and legitimize military actions through their stance. Saghatelyan accused the authorities of consistently presenting arguments favoring Azerbaijan's interests.
Reflecting on the closed session involving Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, and National Assembly deputies, Saghatelyan disclosed the opposition's presentation of a draft statement concerning the four villages of Tavush. The statement assessed the situation, urged action from the international community, and proposed alternative solutions. However, Saghatelyan lamented the authorities' anticipated opposition to their draft statement, reinforcing the opposition's belief that the current administration is inclined toward concessions.
Saghatelyan reiterated the strategic importance of these areas for Armenia, warning against the potential security risks posed by their relinquishment. As tensions persist over border issues, the opposition continues to advocate for a robust defense of Armenian interests and territorial integrity.
