The Armenian Report Among Select News Outlets Invited to Defense Ministry’s Private Border Tour
In an effort to strengthen ties with Armenia’s media, Defense Minister Suren Papikyan recently hosted a private meeting attended by Ani Khachatryan, assignment desk editor of The Armenian Report, and political correspondent Ani Gevorgyan, along with accredited journalists from across the country. Over the course of two days, Khachatryan and her colleagues were provided firsthand information on the Ministry’s current projects aimed at enhancing border security and supporting the nation's defense efforts.
The event, held on October 24, saw the media representatives accompany Minister Papikyan and other officials to Armenia’s border and rearguard stations. There, they observed ongoing improvements firsthand. On his official Facebook page, Minister Papikyan shared, “Media companies accredited by the Ministry of Defense visited the border zone to get acquainted with the progress of the works carried out at the border and rearguard stations. I presented the details of the work done and then answered the questions of the media representatives.”
While the press received detailed briefings, all information will remain confidential to ensure the safety of Armenian forces and the integrity of national security operations. Minister Papikyan’s selective disclosure reflects a careful approach to balancing transparency with the need to protect sensitive military operations and personnel.
Khachatryan, for her part, was pleased with the Ministry’s efforts and with the professionalism she observed during the two-day engagement, which reinforced her commitment to transparent and responsible reporting.
Maintaining rigorous standards of accuracy and verification is a daily priority at The Armenian Report, where journalists act as a bridge between the people and the government. Journalists’ roles extend beyond mere information-sharing; they gather critical insights on government policies, actions, and issues, then relay this information back to the public in an accessible way. This process of investigating, questioning, and reporting serves to hold leaders accountable, ensuring that government actions reflect public interests and building a transparent, informed citizenry.
The collaboration between Armenia’s Defense Ministry and media outlets like The Armenian Report is essential to this mission, offering journalists access to important information while respecting necessary security limits. By working with the government, journalists help citizens make informed decisions, strengthening democracy and civic engagement.
For Armenia, as in other democracies, a free and transparent press remains fundamental. It is a means for building public accountability, open dialogue, and active citizen participation—principles that lie at the heart of a democratic society.
The Armenian Report expressed its gratitude to the Ministry of Defense for including them in this exclusive insight session.
