Two Armenian Servicemen Fatally Shot, Investigation Underway

Two Armenian servicemen lost their lives on August 27 due to gunshot wounds under circumstances yet to be fully determined, according to a statement released by Armenia's Defense Ministry.

The deceased servicemen have been identified as Artyom A. Haykazyan and Armen H. Khachatryan.

The Defense Ministry expressed its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the fallen soldiers. The Ministry also informed the public that a thorough investigation has been launched to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Meanwhile, the Investigative Committee of Armenia has initiated its own investigation into the deaths. According to the official report, on Sunday, around 4 p.m., soldier Artyom Haykazyan allegedly used a rifle registered under his name to fatally shoot Armen Khachatryan, the senior officer of their combat position. The same weapon was then reportedly used by soldier Haykazyan to take his own life, shooting himself in the chin.

The incident has sparked concerns about interpersonal dynamics within the military and non-statutory relationships. Preliminary findings suggest that the tragic event may be linked to personal conflicts and relationships among the involved individuals.

The Armenian military is grappling with the loss of two of its own, highlighting the risks and challenges faced by servicemen and women who dedicate their lives to defending their country.

The incident also underscores the importance of maintaining a supportive and well-regulated environment within the military, with a focus on mental health, interpersonal relations, and conflict resolution.
