Varazdat Lalayan Wins Gold for Armenia at World Weightlifting Championships
Armenia's Varazdat Lalayan has won the world champion title in the +109 kg weight category at the World Weightlifting Championships held in Manama, Bahrain. Lalayan secured victory with an impressive combined total of 467 kg, solidifying his dominance in the sport.
In the snatch, Lalayan lifted 206 kg in his first attempt, followed by 211 kg and 215 kg in subsequent lifts, earning a gold medal for his performance. Meanwhile, Gor Minasyan, an Olympic vice-champion representing Bahrain, secured 210 kg in the snatch but failed to lift 215 kg in his third attempt, winning a silver medal.
Lalayan’s consistent success builds on a career that includes titles such as European Champion, two-time World Vice-Champion, and Olympic silver medalist. His victory in Manama adds another significant achievement to his record, proving his dedication and strength on the global stage.
Gor Minasyan, competing for Bahrain, finished fourth in the combined event with a total of 455 kg.
